Your Guide To Dubai Sports World 2013

We give you a rundown of the main activities at Dubai Sports World 2013, the largest all-ages indoor sporting event in the Middle East.

Your Guide To Dubai Sports World 2013

This summer, if you’re searching for either something that’ll keep your kids occupied or a way to keep in shape yourself, consider heading over to Dubai Sports World, the largest indoor sports event in the Middle-East! It launched this year on June 21, and it'll stay open until August 21.

Back for its third year, Dubai Sports World is held in the Sheikh Saeed Halls, the Trade Centre Arena, and the Dubai World Trade Centre, altogether making up 28,000 square meters of air-conditioned sports facilities.

The facilities are expansive and varied to say the least, with eight football fields, four rugby pitches, two basketball courts, two tennis courts, one volleyball court, one squash court, three badminton courts, a fully equipped gym, a wellness center (for Zumba, Yoga, and Pilates), a 660m running track, virtual cycling simulators, a skate and bmx park, a bike pump track, 12 table tennis tables, six pool tables, six football tables, a kids area, and seating for over 1400 spectators.

Don’t let that list overwhelm you though; here's a quick guide to some of the main activities.

Kids & Youth Camps

These summer camps are for kids and youth between the ages of 4 and 14, and no matter what activity your child is interested in, chances are these camps will include it; the list includes football, basketball, cricket, tennis, hockey, tag-rugby, relays, gymnastics, swimming, arts & crafts, softball, cheer-leading, martial arts, talent shows and more. Some of the coaches have more than 18 years of experience working with children, so you can rest assured that they'll have an excellent experience.

The 'Active Sports' camp holds a camp from 8:30 am to 2 pm with a weekly price of AED 600 and a 3 day price of AED 400. The 'Football Center' camp  is from 1:30pm to 5pm with a AED 650 weekly price. The daily price for both camps is AED 150.

There are also additional camps that focus solely on football, basketball, and tennis, as listed below.

Football & Basketball

The IFA football academy runs coaching sessions focusing solely on football for youth ages 4 to 14. The program emphasizes fun, first and foremost, but also skill development and teamwork.

The sessions are from Sunday to Thursday from 9am to 12pm. It costs AED 100 daily for a three hour session or AED 350 for the week.

The IFA also runs a basketball summer camp for ages 4 to 16. The camp is on Sunday to Thursday from 1pm to 4pm. It costs AED 100 per day or AED 350 for the week.

Tennis

Tennis lessons are available not only for children, but parents as well. 'Active Sports Academy' and 'Tennis 360' both provide a variety of different classes such as cardio tennis, ladies only clinics, beginners clinics, and teen tennis. Some are group lessons and others are private.

A 60 minute private lesson with Tennis 360 will cost you 300/session, and the group lessons range from AED 80 to 125 at various times during the day. The Active Sports Academy also holds weekly tournaments for all levels every friday. Visit www.tennisthreesixty.com or www.activeuae.com for more details.

Skate Park & Bike Pump Track

If your kids are more interested in extreme-sports than traditional sports, consider letting them loose in the 'Rage Skate Park', a well-equipped skate park for skateboarding and BMX, equipped with various rails, ramps, and grind boxes. A daily pass costs 35 AED. There will also be street skateboarding classes for those who want to learn.

In addition, the new Pump Track from Adventure HQ is a short twisty track that's suitable for all types of bikes, scooters, roller-blades, BMX, and skateboards. It's safe for all individuals, no matter their age or experience. A daily pass costs 40 AED.

The Ramadan Skate & BMX competition is on July 19th (visit Rage-shop.com to book) and the Eid Skate & BMX competition is on the 19th of August . The bike pump track also has competitions from July 19th to 20th and from August 16th to 17th (email [email protected] to book).

The Original Fitness Co. is offering a variety of ways to stay in shape this summer with gym memberships, personal training, Yoga, Wonder Woman workouts, and even 'boot camp'!

A single session for any of these activities will cost AED 75, 8 sessions will cost AED 400, and 12 sessions will cost AED 550.

Each activity is held at a different time everyday, so make sure to visit originalfitnessco.com for a full schedule.

A 40 minute race called the Ride Club Challenge takes place every Saturday at 9pm – The final race will take place on August 9th.
