Sports Events Around the UAE in February and March

Spring is the most temperate season of the year in the UAE, so it comes as no surprise to see a large number of sports competitions and tournaments taking place during the months of February and March. There are a wide range of events being held that will appeal to sports fans of all codes, such as water sports, show jumping, horse racing, polo, general health and fitness, tennis and cricket. Why not take the family along to one of the following major events which will be held across the Emirates this February and March?

1. Dubai Motorsport Series

Where: Dubai Autodrome, Motorcity

When: Friday, February 14.

Motor fans and racing enthusiasts are gearing up for this one day festival which will be held on February 14. A series of races and competitions such as the Porsche Middle East Cup, Formula Gulf 1000 and a UAE Sportbikes Competition - all of which feature drivers and competitors from throughout the UAE and the Gulf region - are sure to excite fans. There is no entrance fee and patrons can also take part in a number of track-side activities.

2. Health and Fitness Fun Week 2014

Where: Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and the Abu Dhabi Hall.

When: Wednesday, February 19 to Friday, February 21.

The Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET) are holding a three day sports, health and fitness exhibition as part of their annual Health and Fitness Fun Week 2014. A number of medical organisations, fitness instructors, nutritionists and health experts will be sharing their knowledge and expertise through a series of seminars, workshops and other activities. Visitors to the event can enjoy health checks, fitness counseling and personalised advice on how to improve their overall sports performance. Admission is free.

3. Red Bull Air Race

Where: Abu Dhabi Corniche

When: Friday, February 28 to Saturday, March 1.

The world famous Red Bull Air Race begins its annual competition in Abu Dhabi on the weekend of February 28 and March 1. The opening weekend of seven stages of racing which take place at various locations around the world will pit current champion, Paul Bonhomme, against 11 other challengers as they aim to become the 2014 air race winner. Reaching speeds of up to 370 km/hour, the pilots must navigate their plane around the air gate course in the fastest time possible. Expect plenty of thrills and excitement.

4. Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2014

Where: Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium

When: Monday, February 17 to Saturday, March 1.

A host of international tennis stars will descend on Dubai for the tennis championships which will take place over two weeks of competition from February 17. The current men’s reigning champion, Novak Djokovic, will be looking for an unprecedented fifth win in a row, while the defending women’s champion, Petra Kvitova, will be looking to retain the title she memorably won last year. The organisers have reported a big demand for tickets and it promises to be another memorable Dubai tennis championships.

5. ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup

Where: Dubai Sports City Cricket Stadium

When: Friday, February 14 to Saturday, March 1.

Watch the future stars of international cricket up close and personal as Dubai host the International Cricket Council Under-19 World Cup tournament for the first time in the competition’s history. Matches will take place at the Sports City Cricket Stadium on an almost daily basis, with teams from countries such as England, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Australia competing against each other in one day matches.

6. Super Saturday Race Night

Where: Meydan Grandstand and Racecourse, Nad Al Sheba

When: Saturday, March 8.

The horse racing season continues with the Super Saturday Race Night on 8 March. This event is widely seen as a precursor to the Dubai World Cup which takes place three weeks later. The Super Saturday night of racing features seven races altogether, with the first race off at 1:05 p.m. A bumper crowd is expected at the racecourse in anticipation of an exciting end to the racing season, and various hospitality packages are available. General admission to the course is free.

7. Dubai Polo Gold Cup 2014

Where: Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club, Arabian Ranches

When: Monday, February 24 to Friday, March 14.

This two week competition features the finest polo teams from around the world competing for the prestigious Gold Cup. The tournament is held in the spectacular Polo and Equestrian Club, with the final taking place on March 14. In addition to the polo matches, a variety of pitch side entertainment has also been organised including VIP tents, picnic areas, tournament catering and a party tent featuring DJs and live music.

8. ADCB Zayed City 5k and 10k Fun Run

Where: Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi

When: Friday, March 7.

Over 500 runners from all walks of life are expected to take part in the final race of the 5k and 10k running season. The event is popular with both serious and social runners alike, with the Zayed City streets closed off to the general public for the duration of the race. Organisers are encouraging corporate groups to join in the fun and help raise money for a local charity of their choice. There will be three races in total on the day - 5k juniors, 5k seniors and 10k seniors. All participants wishing to enter must register with the organisers before February 27.
