The Top Hospitals in the UAE

No one plans on a health emergency or major medical issue that comes out of nowhere. But when the inevitable does happen, you’ll want to know where to go so you and your family can get the best care. In the larger cities of the United Arab Emirates, there is no shortage of medical facilities. But knowing which ones have the best reputations and are the perfect fit for your unique situation can be a little bit harder.

Even with our recommendations here, it’s important to do some research of your own to make sure you are picking the facility that is best for you. Each hospital specializes in different types of care and different illnesses and conditions. You’ll want to find one that is familiar with the issue you are confronting, so that you are as comfortable as you or your family can be while being treated. When you are lucky enough to have the time to do some research prior, do so! That being said, here is our list of recommendations for the top hospitals in the UAE.

Danat Al Emarat Hospital, Abu Dhabi

The term “five-star” may be more frequently associated with hotels than with hospitals but that may be changing. There is now a touted five-star hospital in Abu Dhabi. The hospital is sizeable with 11 stories and 250 beds. One of the perks of this state-of-the-art facility is that it was planned to be the first all-digital hospital in the city. This means that all records, test results and diagnoses are fed into the same system which will ensure that all information is always up-to-date, communication is faster and improved and most importantly, that patients receive the best and most accurate care.

And speaking of patients, Danat Al Emarat specializes in care for women and children. Many people appreciate a hospital with a specific concentration because they can count on the care and caregivers to be more knowledgeable in specific health problems and to be better equipped to deal with issues that may arise during a visit. Most of the staff is even comprised of women. Unsurprisingly, the hospital provides a number of women and children-specific types of care – gynecology, pediatrics, maternity (including a birthing center), neonatal care, IVF and a diagnostic and breast center. Another aspect of the hospital that is appealing to many is that it has been built with a green design, using sustainable and innovative architecture.

Al Zahra Hospital, Dubai

It may be a relatively new facility, having opened in 2013, but Al Zahra has a reputation for providing quality healthcare for 30 years in the United Arab Emirates so they are not new to the healthcare game. Al Zahra is a private hospital in Dubai that has 187 beds and offers luxurious VIP rooms with great views of the city. A hospital of this size has a very large staff that specializes in a multitude of areas, such as cardiology, emergency care, ear, nose, and throat, internal medicine, ophthalmology and more. The centralized location and broad range of specialties makes Al Zahra Hospital a convenient choice for the whole family. Their mission is to provide premium medical care and comfort with modern equipment, advanced technology and a team of professional doctors. All physicians are very well versed in their individual specialty, being globally recognized and accredited.

American Hospital, Dubai

The American Hospital in Dubai is a highly ranked private facility that strives to offer American hospital-style care in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region: with an international medical team in a world-class facility. The hospital itself has more than 100 private rooms, 37 outpatient rooms, four surgical operating rooms, three labor and delivery suites for moms and new babies, and six extensive care beds.

Expats should feel right at home in this hospital that strives to match the level of care provided in America and Europe. About 20 percent of the hospital’s patients come from outside the UAE and staff work hard to make foreigners feel at home. The healthcare providers are all American Board certified or hold an equivalent certification from another Western country. Like the other hospitals on our list, the American Hospital in Dubai has numerous specialties, including sports medicine, dental medical imaging, endoscopy, and dietary counseling. Their website is also very user-friendly, allowing patients to book appointments online and even take a virtual tour of the facilities before arrival.

Tawam Hospital, Al Ain

What sets Tawam Hospital (located in Al Ain) apart from other hospitals is that it has a partnership with the famed Johns Hopkins hospital and the facility is an educational and training hospital for faculty at UAE University too. Tawam has over 30 years of providing healthcare to the UAE, and new patients will appreciate the institute’s extensive website. You can book an appointment, get advice from experts on your health issue or look for a doctor to suit your needs. As with the rest of the hospitals on our list, the doctors and nurses are highly trained and specialized and the hospital has a number of specialties and services it can provide to patients, such as a pain clinic, a neuroscience center, a dermatology center and more.
